Date of Installation
To maximize your renewable energy tax credits for your heating and cooling systems, you’ll want to have your new units installed on or before December 31st, 2019. This qualifies you for a 30% credit on the total cost with no upper limit. You can get up to 26% credit for HVAC systems installed at the start of 2020, and 22% at the start of 2021.
How to Qualify
The BBA makes provisions covering existing homes, as well as principal and second homes. This also includes new constructions as long as your chosen systems are certified by ENERGY STAR. The following systems are included in the new tax policy:

Gas, propane or oil furnace and boiler – $150 credit

Central air conditioning and air-source heat pumps – $300 credit

Geothermal heat pumps – No upper limit, up to 30% of total costs including second homes.
