Troubleshooting Cold Air From Your Furnace

You don’t need an expert to tell you that a furnace should never blow out cold air. So if yours does, then you know that there is a problem going on somewhere in your unit. Your furnace is an essential part of your home’s heating and cooling system. It’s your primary source of heat when the cold seasons kick in.

Troubleshooting Cold Air From Your Furnace

But if your furnace is doing the exact opposite of its job, don’t worry just yet. You can solve this problem with a few simple steps.

Check the Thermostat

The first step is too customary to be the first step but you’d be surprised at how many times problems occur just because someone overlooked one simple detail. Before doing anything, make sure that your thermostat is on and that all the settings are accurate.

Close All Panels

Your home’s heating and cooling system is controlled by the central panels in your ventilation shafts. Sometimes, these panels become out of place either by someone tinkering with it or by other accidental means. In any case, checking that all panels are closed should confirm that your furnace works properly.

Check the Pilot Light

Your furnace has a pilot light right underneath its main structure. The light is a small flame that works as the main source of heat in the combustion of gases that facilitate your heating system. Often times, this light remains lit while your furnace is working but accidents occur and sometimes, the light can go out. If this happens, you can easily re-ignite the pilot light to allow the furnace to function properly again.
