A Step-by-Step Guide to Proper Spring Cleaning

Spring has finally arrived in Cincinnati and with the changing of the seasons comes the need for a good cleaning! Housework is a great way to get things tidied up, organized, and dust-free in your home, and it also helps you prep your home for summertime fun. The key to successful Spring cleaning is to take your time and make sure not to miss any areas of your home.

Simple Spring Cleaning Guide

At Hader, we understand the importance of home comfort, so we’ve compiled a step-by-step guide to make your cleaning endeavors go a lot smoother this spring season.

Get Rid of Clutter.

Consider donating or tossing any furniture, books, clothing, or other household items that you no longer need or want. By getting rid of the clutter, you’ll have less stuff to organize and put away, making cleaning your home that much easier! Also, if you have an excess items in your home that you no longer need, donating them to someone who can use your unwanted stuff can make you feel pretty good, which will start your spring cleaning off on the right foot.

Gather All Needed Items Before You Begin.

There’s nothing worse than starting to clean a room only to realize you don’t have any rags, your duster is missing, or you’re out of window cleaner. Be sure to take an inventory of all cleaning products, and locate any needed cleaning gear before you begin. That way, you’ll maximize your cleaning time, rather than wasting time looking for lost items—or worse, running to the store in the middle of your cleaning marathon.

Start with the Small Stuff.

Do all dusting, mirrors, and putting away loose or random objects first. These tasks seem small but they can make a big impact on your overall cleaning. By getting these chores out of the way first, you’ll be able to break your cleaning into smaller sections and then hit the bigger areas (vacuuming, mopping, washing dishes) afterward to bring it all together.

Don’t Forget the Hidden Areas.

Many spots in your home, even with regular cleaning, often get forgotten. Areas such as window casings, tops of cabinets and refrigerators, and inside cabinets are all excellent spots to target. Also, be sure to wash any drapes, and wipe down your blinds. Vacuum floor registers and air vents, dust the extra high areas, and sweep underneath rugs and stairwells.

Clean Your Windows.

Wipe away any dirt, streaks, or buildup on your home’s windows, both inside and out, using window cleaner. Remove screens and use a detergent and sponge to scrub off any excess debris, and lay them in the sun to properly dry before re-installing.

Remember Your HVAC System.

Sweep around your heating and cooling units, and be certain that there are no objects too close, on top of, or obstructing access to the units. This is also an opportune time to check and change your air filter.

Spring is the perfect time to make sure your air conditioner is in good working order for the summertime, so call in a professional HVAC technician and have an annual maintenance check performed.
